About the Book

A Heart-Pounding Tale of Espionage and Mendacity

In 1975, Surviving Prague drops you into the shadowy, paranoia-soaked streets of Cold War Czechoslovakia, where trust is extinct and survival is a full-time job. MI6 agent Zita was supposed to extract a high-ranking Czech informant—until he ended up with a bullet through the face, and she became the prime suspect. Now the Soviets have locked the city down, State Security is hunting her like a rabid dog, and a ruthless Spetsnaz sniper with a grudge is lining up the perfect shot. With every exit sealed and her agency pretending she doesn't exist, Zita's last hope is an old ally: an American operative known only as Doc. The problem? Doc is knee-deep in his own brand of Cold War trouble, and getting her out of Prague alive might just cost them both everything.

Paul does it again! Another spy novel to captivate the reader!

I have read Paul's books as part of my show, 'The Writer's Playground.' He was a spy back when I was still in grammar school. Surviving Prague continues his excellent pattern of great writing, gut-wrenching suspense, and a story that is so hard to put down! Another five stars and I look forward to Book 4!

Thoroughly immersive story by a first-class storyteller!

Author Paul Hollis knows his stuff. His world travels and the experiences from that time period have made him uniquely qualified to write about the Cold War. But having the experience doesn't always mean it will emerge into stories that will hold one's attention throughout a book... unless the reader is being treated to someone who has a talent for storytelling, and Mr. Hollis is blessed with that talent.

Doc and Zita Take on Russians in Cold-War Czechoslovakia

In the Prologue set in Ukraine, the author describes the ancient land's dark overtones infused with the superstitions and mysteries of the Roma, or Gypsy people, who have lived there for centuries. Against this landscape, two men in a flatbed truck are seen to be on a mission to deliver the unnamed contents of a lead-lined box, foreshadowing the threat of deployment of mankind's most fearsome weapon.
